Happy Birthday, Leah!

Our Leah beagle is 10 years old today - she was one of nine puppies born right here at Sanctuary House! Lillian "Lily," her mom, had arrived from a WV rescue only days before. Everyone else was adopted, but Leah stayed with Lily . . . Lily was just beyond puppyhood herself, and certainly not ready to part with all of her puppies! Their personalities are very much alike, and even now at 10 and 11 they have no patience in posing for photographs! The photo of both girls shows Lily and Leah at 6 months. Lily is very gray now (see picture below - even her formerly brown leg is now gray). . . children will do that to you! Happy Birthday, Leah - good work, Lily!

Garden walk

Hemingway "Hemmy" walking in his garden - among the "wallflowers," of course!

National Hammock Day!

Happy National Hammock Day! Zed and Simon in their hammocks - and Catherine in my hammock - on a hot summer day, there is no better place to be than in a comfy hammock! We hope you are having a marvelous National Hammock Day, too.

Farewell, Trudy and Betty

It's a sad day for us at Sanctuary House - our sweet chicken, Trudy, left us for the Rainbow Bridge. Trudy was not yet a year old (she came to us last winter as an "escapee" from a slaughter transport).  I hope her short life here was a good one - she got to interact with other chickens, scratch for bugs, and even lay eggs. One of her best buddies, Betty - also a very heavy chicken, died last week. The three little chickens who lived with them - Goldie, Penny, and Honey - are missing them. Trudy to the right; Goldie and Betty below. Yes, it's true, chickens recognize each other and people too - they are much smarter than most people know. Trudy's last message? Don't eat chicken - a vegetarian/vegan world would be a better world!

Afternoon in the pasture

Imagine watched as Cindy began to mow the pasture - then she and the ponies ran and ran circles of encouragement and all just for the fun of it. On Friday the men will come to work on the fence - we'll be ready!

Good Saturday Morning!

Evans, Magda, and Anya dropping in to say they hope you are having a great Saturday!

Thursday afternoon

Thursday afternoon - what are you doing today? "A nap, of course," said Hemmy. "Just keeping an eye on things," Gus answered. We hope you are having a great day . . . and maybe even an afternoon nap!

Good Night!

Time to settle down for the night Louie and Possum . . . shh - Owen is already asleep!

Hooray for the rain!

Rainy Monday morning - flowers, grass, and ducks are rejoicing!   Bad feather day for the Polish hens - no worries, girls, the sun will return soon! Happy Birthday, Willow

Happy Birthday, Willow - two years old today!

Hot, hot Wednesday afternoon

Yes, it's very hot today - no better place to be than in front of the air conditioner say the cats (from top down: Xanti, Magda, Mavis, and Danny) Francine  had another idea . . . a nap on the cool bathroom tiles!
