Farewell, Mr. Boots

Today, we said farewell to our wonderful Boots - or as he was better known, Mr. Boots. Mr. Boots was found in Princess Anne on a stormy night, a very sick cat with no apparent home. Fortunately, the woman who found him took him right to the vet, who supplied a large dose of antibiotics and also gave the cat his name. Mr. Boots recovered, but remained susceptible to respiratory infections. For many years we fought those infections with antibiotics, but this time, we lost the fight. Mr. Boots loved the other cats and was friendly toward people, as long as that did not involve too much being held. He preferred to sit on a chair or blanket with other cats and to keep his own counsel. Mr. Boots did not believe in litter boxes - perhaps that's why he was out on a stormy night in the first place, but everyone is welcome at Sanctuary House and I suppose he knew that someone would clean up after him. But he was proof certain that not all cats are fastidious! Because I knew Mr. Boots w

Imagine

According to The Writer's Almanac: On this day in 1971, John Lennon released his second solo album,  Imagine .  [Our horse Imagine can imagine this - horses being far more peaceful than humans!] Imagine there's no heaven It's easy if you try No hell below us Above us only sky Imagine all the people Living for today (ah ah ah) Imagine there's no countries It isn't hard to do Nothing to kill or die for And no religion, too Imagine all the people                                                                Living life in peace You may say that I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us And the world will be as one Imagine no possessions I wonder if you can No need for greed or hunger A brotherhood of man Imagine all the people Sharing all the world You may say that I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us And the world will live as one Source:  L

Autumn cleaning

Yes, it's that time of year:  1-800-Got-Junk  will be here next Tuesday morning! We'll be saying good-bye to old fencing, a no-longer-working air conditioner, the sink that was recently replaced - all that kind of junk. Sammy, Annie, and Thea are right to be concerned about their favorite chair: it's beyond cleaning even with Resolve, and some doggie took a bite out of the seat cushion. "It's still a good chair for us," Sammy said, "let's at least keep it until Spring cleaning time. Just put a sheet over it." We'll see about that Sammy!
