RIP Remmy, the cat

Late this morning we said good-bye to our sweet kitty Remmy.  Remmy, whose longer name was Remegius, came to Sanctuary House years ago on October 1st, the feast day of St. Remegius - having been found on the streets of Princess Anne, MD. For several years the people who found him, also sponsored him, making an annual donation for his care. Remmy was mostly a cat's cat - he loved other cats, but was not very interested in human attention. As he grew older he became far more tolerant of humans, and even enjoyed being petted - held or brushed, not so much! He loved sitting on the window sill, staring into the distance, or sitting on the top of the cat tower surveying from that high vantage point. He was sweet and gentle, and was a special friend to the other very shy cats, especially Una and Veronica - all of the other cats and I miss him very much. Until we meet again at the Bridge, rest in peace Remmy!

Happy Thanksgiving!

No social distancing at this Thanksgiving dinner! We hope all people are having a great day, with a lot of social distancing. . . . and in our chicken hearts, we hope you aren't eating chicken or turkey, but we know that might be too much to ask! Oh well, we at Sanctuary House are glad to have - not be - dinner.

Annie Oakley says . . .

"Good morning, everyone! Hope you are having a great day - it's sunny and cool here, the kind of weather doggies love. Remember, if you are a person, to wear a mask, wash your hands, and stay six feet apart. I'm so glad that WE don't have to do those things!   "And one more thing to remember - we doggies would certainly like a biscuit, the sooner the better!  "I'm writing this today because Sister Mary is busy with the cats and making an appointment to have the gutters cleaned. She'll be back next time."

GoFundMe campaign for our new horse!

As of this morning, we have opened a  GoFundMe  account to help with our new horse, not only to cover his redemption fee (from the Lone Star Kill Pen) and transportation to Maryland, but also his necessary follow-up medical check-ups and care. We certainly hope you will consider making even a small contribution - and all donors are invited to submit a name for the horse. He thanks you, as do all of us at Ascension Hermitage & Sanctuary!

Farewell Pansy Louise

It is with much sadness that we said good-bye to Pansy Louise this morning. She was a tiny kitty - all fur and whiskers! She was extremely affectionate and a favorite of every cat who knew her. She was photogenic and loved posing for pictures. Perhaps because she was so little, she was never physically strong, but she lost a lot of her enthusiasm for life after her sister, Sally Ann died. Yesterday I held her for a long time - we sat in the sun and talked about the next life, where she could find her sisters, Mary Jane and Sally Ann - and that one day, we'd find her missing sister Anna Justine too, and then all of us meet again at the Rainbow Bridge.

A new horse!

With only hours to spare, we were able to rescue this sweet, 8 year old, horse from slaughter. He is now on his way home to Ascension Hermitage and Sanctuary. He will be in quarantine for 30 days at a friend's farm but will join our other horses next month. He hasn't yet told us his name, but we will post more information as soon as possible. And in the next few days, we hope to begin a Go Fund Me account. Rescuing a horse - buying him from a kill buyer, and transporting him from a kill pen to a safe home, is not easy or free, but under the circumstances, it was the right thing to do. All of us, including the horse, will be grateful for any help.  Life is precious - guard it with care.

Can you help?

Dear Readers, as you know, when I ask for help it is usually on behalf of the animals at Ascension Hermitage & Sanctuary, but today I am writing for  Maleah Morsey  whose family belongs to my "adopted" church.  I hope you will consider making a donation to help this family - if many of us send even a small contribution we can make a great difference. Thank you for helping, and have a blessed and peaceful All Saints Day!
