February day

It's a cloudy, chilly February day, and the roofers are now putting shingles on the new roof! Most of the chickens and ducks have gone back into their coop, but these three Plymouth Rock hens stayed out to see what's going on. If the work gets too loud they'll probably go back inside too.

February 2

Candlemas, the Feast of the Presentation of our Lord in the Temple in the Episcopal Church or Meeting of the Lord in the Orthodox Church. Read the whole story in the Gospel according to Luke (Luke 2: 21-38). A poem for the day: Nunc dimittis Now old Simeon can sing his song! This is the baby, this is the Lord! This is the King we have been waiting for, Now old Simeon can sing his song! Now old Simeon can sing his song: A baby - every mother's ordinary light of the world, But, my Lord, this is the Lord! Now old Smeon can sing his song! Now old Simeon can sing his song, Light and glory, salvation and heart-sword: This baby here - this is the Lord! Now old Simeon can sing his song!           (from  Handful of Stars , © 2018) And a very Happy Birthday to  St. Hilda's and St. Hugh's School, NYC And it's Ground Hog Day!  Punxsutatawney Phil predicts an early Spring . . . hope you're right, Phil!

Season of Creation

Beginning today and continuing through October 4th, many Episcopal parishes as well as groups and individuals will be joining in the ecumenical celebration of the Season of Creation. For those who may be interested, Episcopal News Service has sent out this article  Season of Creation  which includes many resources.  I am very glad to say that my online parish, Christ Church Cathedral  in Houston, will be keeping the Season of Creation, and we at Sanctuary House will also find ways to be mindful of the season as well.

Somerset County at work

Very glad this little county project is on the far side of our street! The chickens and ducks, whose yard is just on our side of the road, do not appreciate the noise and disruption at all. Cats are keeping watch from the upstairs windows. Dogs? well, it's a project to supervise for sure, although with the air conditioning on inside, a nap sounds pretty good, too!
