Do you hear what I hear?

"Do you hear what I hear?" the cats looked around and asked each other. "It can't be Santa Claus on the roof because it's not Christmas Eve," they said, "but we do hear footsteps! And it's probably not Angels, because it sounds like boots, not wings! And all of the dogs are barking, so they must have heard something too."

Some cats hid - Sava in a Chewy box, Owen under a chair. Little Boy jumped up to look out of the window, Momma Emma yowled in her loudest voice, Dolly and Sally pretended they were invisible and turned away from their breakfast.

"Don't worry," I assured them, "it's our friend Antonio from Arocon Roofing Company, cleaning the gutters!"

"Oh, okay," the cats said, "then we wish him to be safe and nimble and agile and as well-balanced in high places as we are!"

Yep, that's our prayer!

February 2

Candlemas, the Feast of the Presentation of our Lord in the Temple in the Episcopal Church or Meeting of the Lord in the Orthodox Church. Read the whole story in the Gospel according to Luke (Luke 2: 21-38). A poem for the day: Nunc dimittis Now old Simeon can sing his song! This is the baby, this is the Lord! This is the King we have been waiting for, Now old Simeon can sing his song! Now old Simeon can sing his song: A baby - every mother's ordinary light of the world, But, my Lord, this is the Lord! Now old Smeon can sing his song! Now old Simeon can sing his song, Light and glory, salvation and heart-sword: This baby here - this is the Lord! Now old Simeon can sing his song!           (from  Handful of Stars , © 2018) And a very Happy Birthday to  St. Hilda's and St. Hugh's School, NYC And it's Ground Hog Day!  Punxsutatawney Phil predicts an early Spring . . . hope you're right, Phil!

Season of Creation

Beginning today and continuing through October 4th, many Episcopal parishes as well as groups and individuals will be joining in the ecumenical celebration of the Season of Creation. For those who may be interested, Episcopal News Service has sent out this article  Season of Creation  which includes many resources.  I am very glad to say that my online parish, Christ Church Cathedral  in Houston, will be keeping the Season of Creation, and we at Sanctuary House will also find ways to be mindful of the season as well.

Somerset County at work

Very glad this little county project is on the far side of our street! The chickens and ducks, whose yard is just on our side of the road, do not appreciate the noise and disruption at all. Cats are keeping watch from the upstairs windows. Dogs? well, it's a project to supervise for sure, although with the air conditioning on inside, a nap sounds pretty good, too!
