For many reasons this weekend has been long and tedious: tax forms, grant application, too much information from diocesan convention, the time change, the price of horse feed - you know the kinds of things.
But then, this morning at 6 a.m., Sing for Joy! The final piece was "Guide Me Ever, Great Redeemer," and yes, I sang along - although with slightly different words, since I know the version in The Hymnal 1982. Believing that the words are in the public domain, I'll share it here - and that tune Cum Rhondda? Yep, that will be in my head all day!
I hope this makes your day too:
1 Guide me, O thou great Jehovah,
pilgrim through this barren land;
I am weak, but thou art mighty;
hold me with thy powerful hand;
bread of heaven, bread of heaven,
feed me now and evermore,
feed me now and evermore.
2 Open now the crystal fountain,
whence the healing stream doth flow;
let the fire and cloudy pillar
lead me all my journey through;
strong deliverer, strong deliverer.
be thou still my strength and shield,
be thou still my strength and shield.
3 When I tread the verge of Jordan,
bid my anxious fears subside;
death of death, and hell's destruction,
land me safe on Canaan's side;
songs of praises, songs of praises,
I will ever give to thee,
I will ever give to thee.
